Urbs in Horto

Well, I’ve finally done it. I’m a published author. I was working on a short story that became a book that became a series of books and never went anywhere… I was sad to have failed in that endeavor. So I started working on a series of political pamphlets. They were short enough to get around my problem of writing a book it seems. Every time I sat down to write the book, I found something new I wanted to change or edit. This time I just bit the bullet at one point and said okay, I’m publishing.. And I did! Woot!

I intended to make it free but the cheapest price I could list a non public domain work for was 0.99… without further wait here it is:

Getting America Back: Introduction – The Current State of Our Nation

Here is the description that I wrote for Amazon:

“The Current State of Our Nation is the first in a series of political pamphlets to help tackle the system, not the issues, of U.S. Government. This is a call for independence. It is the beginning of a war. This is an attempt to start Getting America Back. I intend to look at why we are not being represented properly anymore, and provide concrete solutions on how to fix them problem by problem. This document is the first in a series of political essays I will be writing. The introduction is no more then what I see the problems to be.

If you disagree with this document you are likely to disagree with my future essays. The Current State of Our Nation has been read and liked by democrats, republicans and everyone in between. However, it has not been read by anyone currently holding political or elected office, because those are most likely the people who will not like this document or it’s future follow ups. It looks at what needs to change to return the power to the people of the United States instead of “elected officials” who are elected by people but don’t have to care what they think.

The Current State of Our Nation is not about issues like gay rights, abortion, birth control, healthcare, public safety. It is about the system our government currently operates in and how to make it more representative, responsive, efficient, and helpful to to average person while still cutting costs.

When Obama was elected in 2008 I was hoping the system would change. All that changed were the government’s stance on issues and the face on the system. The system did not change at all.

I wanted to keep the format as a series of political pamphlets mainly to pay homage to Thomas Paine. He helped us declare Independence from the King of Great Britain. I want to start a movement for independence from our minds, for that is why we are truly locked into this poor two party system.”

Please enjoy if you wish!

Introduction (part 1): Well, yesterday the internet died. It died because of, in my opinion worthless, protests against two bills. Those two bills created a backlash and websites decided to take themselves down to protest and raise awareness. Well it got the job done. Both SOPA and PIPA are dead because they have lost the critical support needed to pass, however a new bill has been created… It’s called OPEN. Let’s take a look at what Wikipedia looked like yesterday shall we…

I was talking to Richard (the other blogger here) the other day about the new 5000-series cars on the CTA Rail lines. Let’s take a look at them in detail shall we?

The first problem I noticed was that there was no way to tell which Loop train this is. Is it Pink, Purple, Brown, or Orange? Is it Green going only as far as the loop? Well let’s figure it out. Logic time. Read more →
